So, now your corporate strategy is being driven by your digital strategy and your digital transformation goals are in place. Now you need a plan so, where do you begin? Architecture. Think about it like this: nobody would begin to build a city/town, or a building/house, or even a deck - without architectural blueprints, would they? This is probably the most important step for you to take and the most important to get right.
Think of your architecture in layers. Start at the top - and work down. Conceptual architecture, first (this is your "pencil sketch"), then progressively imagine all the other layers: software architecture, systems architecture, integration architecture, data architecture, etc. And, then make sure all these work together as a nice cohesive whole.

Or, at best, many think of these components as discrete separate functional pieces and become enamored with acquiring “best-in-class” solutions. The critical piece they forget about is the complexity and costs of integration. Instead, ask yourself this question: what if you had a technology platform where you could get all these components in one cohesive stack? Isn’t there an advantage to be gained – a big one?
